ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

The minutes of August 8, 2009 were read and accepted. K. Brown made the motion to accept the minutes as read.

M. Poljacik seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT

R. Adams verbally presented his monthly report. He discussed the Halloween Teen Dance that was held at the Vermont Police Academy on Friday, October 9, 2009. R. Adams stated that this year's dance was two weeks earlier than normal in order NOT to conflict with the Pittsford Haunted House. The Recreation Director reported that the senior citizen group "Pittsford Seniors" went on a trip to the President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site located in Plymouth Notch, VT. 31 seniors were registered to take part in the trip to the birth site of Vermont's important men. Folks enjoyed seeing the village in which the 30 president of the United States was born & grew up in. The trip was free to the senor citizen participants for two reasons, first because the Recreation Department and Pittsford Seniors were able to secure a Successful Aging Grant from the Agency of Aging in the amount of $750 to off set the fee of the tour bus. Secondly, because the site is a State Historic Site the seniors were able to use their Green Mountain Passports and enter the site for free.

OLD BUSINESS

Terry Poor/Tony Freson "Disc Golf Proposal"

Terry Poor gave a 20-minute presentation at the June 10, 2009 Recreation Committee meeting on why he thinks a "Disc Golf Course" would be beneficial to the residents of Pittsford and why one should be installed at the Recreation Area. Mr. Poor set a 3-hole course at Pittsford Days so residents could play on. During the months of September and October T. Poor and T. Freson have tentatively laid out the holes their purposed Disk Golf course on Town of Pittsford land at the Recreation Area. They have been researching costs of the disk golf holes and brainstorming ideas how to play for them.

Fall Programs

Besides youth soccer, the Halloween Teen Night, and monthly luncheons at the Vermont Police Academy along with the Pittsford Seniors the Recreation Department is sponsoring programs such as the Pittsford Pumpkin Party, Aerobics, and Men's Open Gym Basketball in the Lothrop Gym.

Brandon Recreation Department

R. Adams reported that he continues to work closely with Shawn Smith, the part-time Brandon Recreation Director. R. Adams has taken it upon himself to help ensure that the programs that the two towns run together operate as smoothly as ever before. R. Adams was happy to say that the Brandon Recreation Department was nicely represented at the Halloween Teen Dance on October 9. S. Smith arrived on time proved to an asset to the event. Ahead time he coordinated volunteers to assist us with setting up, chaperoning, and even had volunteers stay to help with cleaning up after event.

NEW BUSINESS

Recreation Department Budget FY 2011

The Recreation Director let the Recreation Committee know that budget materials were sent out to the various department heads. He informed them that the five-year capital budget or General Government Capital Budget and Department Budgets were due on October 9. Typically, the department budgets are due a couple weeks later then the capital budget, however this year the Town Manager, John Haverstock adjusted the timing to speed up the process.

All Other Business

M. Poljacik asked if the "ice skating" idea has been abandon by the Recreation Department. He and his family frequently visit the Proctor Ice Rink. He believes that the town should allow skating to take place on the Swim Pond at the Recreation Area. R. Adams has always understood the Town didn't want to skate on the pond due liability issues.

With no further business to discuss, K. Brown made the motion to adjourn the meeting.

J. Parker seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

The meeting adjourned at 8:12 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Randy Adams, Recording Secretary                                Rob Ketcham, Chairman
