MINUTES OF November 11, 2008



Meeting was called to order by Mark Poljacik at 7:04 pm. Members of the Recreation Committee who were present include Scott Eugair, Kathy Brown, and Jenny Parker.


Recreation Committee member Kathy Shortsleeves arrived at 7:09 pm.


Recreation Director Randy Adams was also present.


Recreation Committee members Mark Winslow & Rob Ketcham were not present.




The minutes of October 14, 2008 were read and accepted. J. Parker made the motion to accept the minutes as read.


S. Eugair seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.




R. Adams presented his November Recreation Director's Report. Other highlights made by the Recreation Director were: The scoreboard that was donated to the Recreation Department by the College of St. Joseph's in Rutland has successfully been installed in the Lothrop Gym by "Jim’s Scoreboards". The Recreation Director said this is an upgrade of close to 20 years between the scoreboard that was there and the newly installed board. The new board is much larger with larger display digits and has many more overall features to take advantage of. The old unit is still operational and has donated it to "Special Olympics."



Bench Placement from Eagle Scout

R. Adams invited people to his office after the meeting adjourns to look at a slide show presentation of the benches at the Recreation Area. There have been 10 benches "planted" by Eagle Scout candidate Ethan Nordmeyer. He has said there is a slight possibility that 2 more benches may be added if donors commit the funds. R. Adams stated that he suggested to the Select Board that they thank in some manner the Boy Scout who has done the work once he has officially earned his Eagle Scout certification.


Recreation Department Budget FY 2010

The Recreation Director informed the Recreation Committee that he presented “Proposed” Budget and Capital Budget Plan for FY 2010. to the Select Board at their regularly scheduled meeting on November 5.


Recreation Area Gate Closing (12/1 not 11/1)

R. Adams stated that he has been opening and closing the Recreation Area Gate each day and would continue to do so until the end of November.



No new business was on the agenda.


All Other Business

M. Poljacik suggested that the Recreation Department check into "Bus Trips" to such events like basketball games, baseball games, etc... He also suggested contacting the Town of Proctor to set up some sort of skating program.


With no further business to discuss, J. Parker made the motion to adjourn the meeting.


S. Eugair seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.


The meeting adjourned at 7:55 pm.
