RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT
R. Adams presented the May-July Recreation Director's Report. He highlighted that a record number of over 80 children participated in the fishing derby held in May. He contributed the success to the advertising that the Recreation Department did and to great help he had from key members of the Recreation Committee that assisted during event to ensure things ran smoothly. Unlike the year before many of the 200 stocked trout were caught by our young anglers. R. Adams felt this was a direct result of having the derby in the middle of May, two weeks) earlier than usual when the water was that much cooler. The Recreation Director added that he was most proud of the fact that he was able to arrange for local "Let's Go Fishing" Instructors to come and share their knowledge with whoever wanted to listen. These instructors have a wealth of fishing knowledge who are trained by the State of VT to specifically assist the children participating.
Next R. Adams discussed how popular the ice cream social that was held at the Recreation Area on Sunday, June 1 was. Over the past three years this program, which is co-sponsored by the Maclure Library, numbers have skyrocketed. This year's attendance was an all time record of +/-180 people came out to make their own sundaes.
The Recreation Director reported over all that he felt the event went super. He was disappointed that it rained about 4 pm and the last two hours had to be cancelled. R. Adams was pleased that all day long their seemed to be a steady flow of visitors entering the Recreation Area to take part in the festivities and it really wasn't until there was a threat of a thunderstorm did folks begin to file out.. Pittsford Day started in spectacular fashion when the Pittsford "OMYA" Royals won the little league championship in front of large crowd. One highlight was a the fact that the Pittsford Day Committee was able to secure new groups such as Omya, Inc., CVPS, Markowski's Excavating, and the Maclure Library to be part of this annual event and they assembled a real good cross-section of the community. M. Winslow was curious why the Pittsford Day Committee decided to hold the event on a Saturday this year instead of its traditional Sunday.
The meeting was held at the Recreation Area to give committee members an opportunity to walk around the grounds so that they could give some feedback of what they saw. Many different ideas, questions, & remarks were brought up in the short visit. R. Adams urged members to write down their thoughts & feelings so they can be discussed at a later meeting.
No New Business was discussed at this time.
All Other Business
With no further business to discuss, K. Shortsleeves made the motion to adjourn the meeting.
M. Winslow seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 7:59 pm.
