PITTSFORD RECREATION DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF November 13, 2007
PITTSFORD MUNICIPAL OFFICES 7:00 pm
Meeting was called to order by Kathy Shortsleeves at 7:00 pm. Members of the Recreation Committee who were present include, Kathy Brown, Mark Poljacik and Jenny Parker.
Recreation Director Randy Adams was also present.
Recreation Committee members Scott Eugair, Michele Cioffredi, and Mark Winslow were not present.
The minutes of October 9, 2007 were read and accepted. M. Poljacik made the motion to accept the minutes as read.
K. Brown seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT
R. Adams presented the October Recreation Director's Report.
R. Adams reminded the Recreation Committee about a request he had received from a resident that Recreation Department "somehow" memorialize another long time resident who passed away. R. Adams reiterated that he felt it would be good if the Recreation Department put together a "formal" procedure for this type of request. He explained that a policy should be formed so all requests would be treated fair & equal. J. Parker mentioned a "marble memorial" that she had seen and thought something like that would work at the Recreation Area.
FY 2009 Budget
R. Adams provided copies of the long and short term goals of the Recreation Area that they had re-familiarize themselves with the lists. Many different tasks, needs and wants, and personal preferences were discussed. At the October meeting R. Adams presented the Recreation Committee with a "draft" copy the FY 2009 Recreation Department Budget for them to review. At that time he noted that he along with other department heads are scheduled to present department budgets at the December 5 Select Board meeting. K. Brown asked the Recreation Department if he still feels it's important for the Recreation Department to repair gates & fences around the swim pond. The Recreation Director said yes for listed the same reasons he stated in October, "first for safety concerns, there are some areas in the fence that could potentially be dangerous to folks. Secondly he said because a new fence would look more professional and would appeal to new visitors."
New winter Programs
R. Adams discussed two "new" programs that Recreation Department will be offing this winter. First he revealed that, in conjunction with the Brandon Recreation Department, the Recreation Department would be sponsoring a "earn to ski/snowboard program at the Middlebury Snow." The program is scheduled to take place on Sundays in March '08 (excluding Easter Sunday). The program will an affordable way for area families to introduce skiing/snowboarding to their children. Transportation will be provided in the fee no matter if they ride the bus just for one day or for the entire program.
The second "new" program instructs teenage girls the basics of boxing. The Recreation Department, and instructor Joani Imperato, are offering this to empower young women to build self-confidence and self-esteem. Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of boxing and other principals of the sport. Along with physical techniques of boxing students will learn how use their senses to think in various pressure situations, develop coordinated muscle memory, and create self-discipline. There will be strict "no contact policy with other participates" in place.
All Other Business
K. Shortsleeves asked the Recreation Director if he had heard any more information on the Pittsford Food Shelf "Stuff-a-Bus" program. R. Adams stated no but promised to forward any details to the Recreation Committee as he gets in.
With no further business to discuss, J. Parker made the motion to adjourn the meeting.
M. Poljacik seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm.
