Meeting was called to order by Rob Ketcham at 7:10 pm. Members of the Recreation Committee who were present include Kathy Shortsleeves, Mark Poljacik, Kathy Brown and Michele Cioffredi.

Recreation Director Randy Adams was also present.

Recreation Committee member Mark Winslow arrived at 7:15 pm.

The minutes of October 11, 2005 were read and accepted. K. Brown made the motion to accept the minutes as read.

M. Poljacik seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

R. Adams verbally added to his report that the front entrance of the Recreation Area was repaved in early October. The rough potholes entrance now has a fine smooth surface which will be a fantastic first impression of the Recreation Area for visitors next summer. R. Adams noted that the Recreation Area officially closed (gate will not be opened daily) for the season on Friday, October 28. The gate will re-open Monday, April 17, 2006. R. Adams noted that even though the gate is closed the Recreation Area still gets a lot of usage during the “off-season” mostly by walkers, cross-country skiers, & snowmobiles. R. Adams reported that during the recent snowstorm the Recreation Area was fortunate and only had minimal tree damage, but the highway crew did have to come over to cut up and remove the few trees that were damaged. R. Adams took an opportunity to thank a few Recreation Committee members who had helped the Recreation Department in the last month or so. R. Ketcham (and daughter Stephanie) was thanked for erecting the “new” backstop on the upper baseball field. It was noted R. Ketcham has also built a new box cover from the electric meter socket. R. Adams thanked K. Shortsleeves for volunteering as a chaperone at the recent Halloween Teen Dance. M. Poljacik was thanked for coaching the Recreation Department’s 3rd/4th grade youth soccer team. Lastly R. Adams thanked M. Winslow, and his family, for donating the 101 pumpkins that were used at the Pittsford Pumpkin Party. R. Adams was very pleased with the committee’s efforts and wanted them to be clear that their hard work was appreciated.

Recreation Area Short Term & Long Term Goals

In September the Recreation Committee held their Recreation Committee meeting at the Recreation Area so that members of the Committee could have a chance to tour the grounds to get a fresh perspective of the area so that the Short Term and Long Term Goals lists can be updated. At the October 11, 2005 Recreation Committee meeting a discussion was had and many ideas were put forth, these ideas were added to the current goal lists, titled Goals Lists 2006.

Compact Tractor Specifications “DRAFT”

R. Adams informed the committee members that the Compact Tractor Specifications were truly a “rough draft” copy; however it is a starting point which gives the committee an idea what is needed and he agreed that many changes will be made before it actually goes to bid. The committee did not take time during the meeting to review the document (that will be done at a later meeting) however M. Winslow stated a concern with the Horse Power guides lines.

Playground Sign @ the Recreation Area

R. Adams presented a printed copy of the wording to be placed on the sign, after much discussion a decision was made as to what the sign would say. R. Adams promised to bring to the committee a paper preview of the sign before anything was done.

Caroling on the Green Event

R. Adams informed the committee that the Recreation Department and Pittsford Lions Club were planning again to sponsor a Caroling on the Green event. The tentative date is Sunday, December 4 in order to coordinate with other events that the Lions Club has going on in town late day. M. Cioffredi said she would contact the OV Chorus to see if they would be interested in joining the Recreation Department to perform that evening. R. Adams said he would be talk with M. Voutas, Lothrop Principal, to first see if they do have a chorus and two to ask them to join the event also.

VLCT Playground Survey

On September 15, 2005 a VT League of Cities & Towns representative visited the Recreation Area to complete an inspection of the new playground equipment. R. Adams was happy to report that the equipment passed the inspection with no problem. The action plan did however spell out some suggestions as to ways to bring the swing set up to code, which R. Adams indicated would happen next spring.

With no further business to discuss, Mark Poljacik made the motion to adjourn the meeting.

Kathy Shortsleeves seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

The meeting adjourned at 8:45 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,
