October 24, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Ghosts and Goblins are Scary, but Computers Don’t Have to be October 24, 2016
Monday, Oct. 24th from 2-4 p.m. at the Vermont State Police Academy in Pittsford, VT.
We’ve heard it time and again, Microsoft has become a monster. Too much clutter on the start menu, when all you want to do is simply get on the internet or check your email. Or how about having your computer shut off to do an update without even asking you, causing you to lose whatever work you had open in the process? And then there’s waiting for the computer to start up, it can take up to 15 minutes depending on your device.
We have a solution. It is called Ubuntu, an operating system that is simple and easy to use, and no clutter. It can be loaded on your computer in addition to Windows in the event you want to use Windows to run a specific program. You can run most of the programs on it that you can currently run on Windows. It runs well on older machines, and will be like breathing new life into them. And to make it even better, it’s free.
We will talk a little about the history of Ubuntu, how it works, why it is free, and how you can get it. We’ll also give a live demonstration of the desktop, and what you can expect from it once you have it.
