COVID-19-Pittsford Recreation Area Update- Thu., 4/9/20

COVID-19-Pittsford Recreation Area Update- Thu., 4-9-20 & Physical Distancing at the Rec & Trails

As the weather gets warmer it’s a good time to discuss social distancing for your recreation and our collective health. The “Stay Home, Stay Safe” ordered by Governor Phil Scott was clear about limiting activities outside the home. One of the essential reasons for leaving home pertains to limited exercise. The Governor rightfully trusts our abilities as smart Vermonters to apply our common sense when recreating and doing our part to keep each other safe. There are many outdoor activities that provide the opportunity to comply with the social distancing  guidelines (AT LEAST 6- feet apart) when walking, using the Disc Golf Course, biking, hiking, jogging, running, fishing and hunting.

All can be practiced in ways that limit the types of physical contact that spreads the virus.

The harsh reality is that outdoor activities in which people from outside your family unit (or people with whom do not live) are sharing/touching an object that is passed back forth, or occupying the same 6 foot space, or touching/sitting/playing on the same surfaces are not within the bounds of that order. If you are using a public field to recreate, please do so only with the people whom you live with!!!

The National Institutes of Health has stated that the COVID-19 virus is still detectable on plastic and stainless steel for 2 or 3 days. Because we do not have the ability to disinfect the entirety of all structures between each families’ use, we have to close the basketball court, the tennis/pickleball courts, and the playground structure at the Pittsford Recreation Area until further notice. (On Thursday, 4/9/20 tennis nets and the basketball rims were removed.) At this time, we will not be erecting fencing, or putting up tape or cones. Signs will be posted at the Recreation Area, and around town and we’ll rely on folks to exercise common sense.

Pittsford is an amazing community and when given a chance we go above and beyond to support each other.
