Attorney Newman read from the Order Establishing Trust for the Benefit of the Town of Pittsford and its School Districts the following: “said Town of Pittsford or Pittsford Town School District shall be a part, to acquire lands, interests in lands or buildings, to construct remodel or repair public school buildings, structures or grounds used in connection therewith”. Atty. Newman concluded this would include the maintenance of the sidewalk near the Lothrop Elementary School. The Trustees discussed the State of Vermont has indicated this portion of U.S. Route 7 will not be updated and repaired for at least another 10 to 15 years. The Trustees do not want to wait this long with the safety of the school children a priority and would feel terrible should any child be hit by a car due to not providing the sidewalks. A motion was made by H. Pelkey and seconded by T. Hooker to spend $50,000.00 from the Burditt Fund for the safety of students and residents to repair the sidewalk on U.S. Rt. 7 as previously discussed. The Trustees voted unanimously 3 to 0 to approve the sidewalk repair. The two Pittsford residents of the OVUU Board to vote on this issue.
