PITTSFORD RECREATION COMMITTEE
MINUTES OF April 12, 2016
PITTSFORD TOWN OFFICE
@ 6:30 pm
Meeting was called to order by Rob Ketcham at 6:35 pm. Members of the Recreation Committee who were present include Kelly Connaughton, Bill Crossmon and Jenny Parker.
Recreation Director Randy Adams was also present.
Recreation Committee members Mark Poljacik and John White were not present.
- Shortsleeves made a motion to adopt the Original Agenda as is.
- Connaughton seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
The minutes of January 12, 2016 were read and accepted. J. Parker made the motion to accept the minutes as read.

RECREATION DIRECTOR’S REPORT
- Adams presented the April 2016 Recreation Director’s to the committee.
OLD BUSINESS
Memorial Bench for Sara Gallipo at the Recreation Area
The Recreation Director is working with the Recreation Committee to install a bench within the Swim Area as a way to remember Sara Gallipo a longtime lifeguard and swim instructor at the Recreation Area. R. Ketcham brought in a quote from Gawet Marble for a memorial bench. On it had several quotes. Quote #1- Danby White Marble Bench: seat w/back (no arms); 3-6 ft. long: all smooth finish $2,305.75 plus assembly $460.00 for a total of $2765.75. Special option #1 Danby Marble LEGS ONLY $739.00. Quote #2- Barre Gray Granite Bench: seat w/back (no arms) 3-6 ft. long, steeled finish on faces; tapered back; BRP $1280.00 plus assembly $460.00 for a total of $1740.00. Special option #2 Barre Gray Granite LEGS ONLY $323.00. At the March 2016 Recreation Committee meeting R. Ketcham passed around a photo of a double-seated bench he found. He thought it represented what Mrs. Gallipo would have liked. K. Shortsleeves mentioned that the Recreation Committee might want to contact New England Woodcraft as there is a family connection there and they might be willing to help. It was the consensuses of the Recreation Committee to get a list and photographs of the different choices of benches and present them to Andrea Winslow to help decide what style would be most appropriate.
5k Trail Run (Kelly Connaughton)
- Connaughton discussed the Pittsford Trail Run – 5k and 1 mile scheduled for Saturday, April 30, 2016. Pre-registration was extended an extra week and end April 8. At this time, the Trail Run has 83 5k & 47 1 mile participants. The races will start and end at the Recreation Area. Folks can register on the day of event beginning at 8:00 am. The restrooms at the Recreation Area will be open in time. Recreation Director will make sure a port-a-let is available for event. The registration forms are available to the Recreation Department website.
Recreation Area Long Term & Short Term Goals
At the February 2016 R. Ketcham suggested that Recreation Committee members begin thinking about Long and Short Term Goals for the Recreation Area. It said that it had been a long time since the Recreation Committee had done this. The Recreation Director handed out copies of the last list goals from November 2005. The Recreation Committee spoke briefly about goals and decided that they will meet at the Recreation Area at their next monthly meeting on May 10, 2016 if the weather permits.
Committee Appointments (Chairman & Vice Chair)
- Adams reported that at their regularly scheduled meeting on April 6, 2016 the Select Board approved the Recreation Committee’s recommendation that R. Ketcham be appointed as the Chairperson and Kathy Shortsleeves be appointed the Vice Chairperson.

At the April 6, 2016 the Select Board approved the Recreation Committee’s motion to set the Recreation Area fees as they were in 2016.
NEW BUSINESS
Recreation Area Use Request by Rising Sun Fundraiser for a handicap lift (K. Scarcello)
Kathy Scarcello the owner of Rising Sun Martial Arts on 77 Furnace Road, Pittsford called on March 15, 2016 to see if she could reserve a Sunday at the Recreation Area for a fundraiser. She informed the Recreation Director that she needs to purchase a new handicapped lift. At the February Recreation Committee meeting, Kathy discussed in wonderful detail about all the students with very different disabilities she instructs. Some of these students would benefit. It was the consensus of the board to have the Recreation Director work out a fair price
All Other Business
With no further business to discuss B. Crossmon made the motion to adjourn the meeting.
- Shortsleeves seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 7:45 pm.
