Meeting was called to order by Rob Ketcham at 6:35 pm. Members of the Recreation Committee who were present include Jenny Parker, Mark Poljacik and Kathy Shortsleeves.

 

Recreation Director Randy Adams was also present.

 

Recreation Committee member Bill Crossmon, John White and Mark Winslow were not present.

 

 

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

 

The minutes of December 16, 2014 were read and accepted. J. Parker made the motion to accept the minutes as read.

 

  1. Poljacik seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

 

 

RECREATION DIRECTOR’S REPORT

  1. Adams presented his Recreation Director’s Report to the committee.

 

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

 

Safe Routes to School (walkers & bikers)

The Recreation Department will be sponsoring a bike safety event in the spring to correlate with International Bike to School Day Wednesday, May 6, 2015. The Recreation Director has met with Pittsford Police Chief M. Warfle about cosponsoring this event and he was all for it. M. Warfle has many great ideas for the event.

 

Shootout Competition Date

  1. Crossmon spoke about his idea to hold the Shootout Competition outside at the Recreation Area as a way to “showcase” the basketball court and the new baskets that were recently installed. Various dates were discussed for the event but nothing was decided other than it would not be in December when it usually takes place.

 

Budget FY 2015/16

The Select Board is still working on the Budget for FY 2015/16 for the Town of Pittsford.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

 

Winter Programs

The Recreation Department cosponsored a FREE winter basketball camp at OV over the December School Break on December 27 & 28. Youth basketball for grades 1st & 2nd grade will run Saturday mornings 9:00 – 10:00 am January 3 – February 7, 2015. The weekly Aerobic-Workout program started up again on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. The three 2015 Family Fun Nights at the VT Police Academy are scheduled for January 9, February 6, and March 6. On Friday, January 16, 2015, the Recreation Department is cosponsoring a bus trip with the Brandon Recreation Department to Boston to watch the Boston Celtics take on the Chicago Bulls at the TD Garden. The School Break Fun Day is February 18, 2015. Safe Sitter Baby Sitting Program is scheduled to run in the Lothrop Cafeteria March 21 & March 28, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm each day. The Learn to ski/snowboard program at the Middlebury Snow Bowl will take place on Sunday mornings, March 1, 8, 15 & 24.

 

Ice out Competition (Looking for a coordinator from Recreation Committee)

The Recreation Director is seeking a volunteer to lead a fund raising effort taking place this winter.

 

Recreation Area Recycle Containers

The Recreation Director reminded the Recreation Committee a Boy Scout who is looking for a community based project as a way to earn his “Eagle Scout Badge” who had asked Recreation Director about installing, in some way, recycling containers for the Recreation Area late last fall. Recreation Committee briefly discussed possible locations such as on the Disc Golf Course, swim area and pavilion. The Recreation Committee did say that it should be look appropriate for the Recreation Area.

 

All Other Business

With no further business to discuss, M. Poljacik made the motion to adjourn the meeting.

 

  1. Crossmon seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

 

The meeting adjourned at 7:25 pm.
