PITTSFORD RECREATION DEPARTMENT

MINUTES OF November 19, 2014

PITTSFORD TOWN OFFICES

@ 6:30 pm

 

Meeting was called to order by Rob Ketcham at 6:34 pm. Members of the Recreation Committee who were present include Bill Crossmon, Jenny Parker, Mark Poljacik and Kathy Shortsleeves.

 

Recreation Director Randy Adams was also present.

 

Recreation Committee members John White and Mark Winslow were not present.

 

 

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

 

The minutes of September 9, 2014 were read and accepted. J. Parker made the motion to accept the minutes as read.

 

  1. Poljacik seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

 

 

RECREATION DIRECTOR’S REPORT

  1. Adams presented his Recreation Director’s October and November Reports to the committee.

 

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

 

Fall Programs

The Recreation Department has been busy running many programs including Youth soccer pre-K – 6th grades, Hunter Safety, Senior Bus Trip to the Woodstock Meal site, and monthly Senior Luncheons @ the VT Police Academy, Kickboxing, a Teen Dance, and the Pittsford Pumpkin Party and a Disc Golf Tournament at the Recreation Area on Saturday, 10/25/14. Plus with help of Kathy Shortsleeves the Recreation Department offered a bus trip to see The Radio City Christmas Spectacular on Saturday, 11/15/14. And finally the Recreation Department sponsors the annual Craft Fair at Lothrop School, this year scheduled for 11/22/14 10 am – 3 pm in the Lothrop Gym.

 

Safe Routes to School (walkers & bikers)

The Recreation Director attended a SRTS meeting on September 30, 2014 at Lothrop School. The Recreation Director said he felt Lothrop’s International Walk to School Day on October 8th was a success and that many students, and their families walked to school that day. The Recreation Department will be sponsoring a bike safety event in the spring to correlate with International Bike to School Day in the spring of 2015.

 

 

 

 

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Winter Programs

The Recreation Department is sponsoring a Senior Bus trip to the Rutland Paramount Theater to see the VT Symphony orchestra on Sunday, December 14 at 3 pm show, tickets are still available. Youth basketball 1st -4th grade, a free winter basketball camp at OV over the December School Break, Aerobics, three Family Fun Nights at the VT Police Academy, School Break Fun Day in February, and a learn to ski/snowboard program at the Middlebury Snow Bowl in March.

 

Shootout Competition Date

  1. Crossmon spoke about his idea to hold the Shootout Competition outside at the Recreation Area as a way to “showcase” the basketball court and the new baskets that were recently installed. Various dates were discussed when he might hold the event but nothing was decided other than it would not be in December when it usually takes place.

 

Budget FY 2015/16

The Recreation Director reported that he attended the Select Board meeting on November 5, 2014 to present the draft budget FY 2015/16.

 

All Other Business

With no further business to discuss, M. Poljacik made the motion to adjourn the meeting.

 

  1. Shortsleeves seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

 

The meeting adjourned at 7  :45 pm.
