MINUTES OF AUGUST 12, 2014
PITTSFORD RECREATION AREA
@ 6:00 pm

Meeting was called to order by Rob Ketcham at 6:10 pm. Members of the Recreation Committee who were present include Bill Crossmon, Jenny Parker, Kathy Shortsleeves, John White and Mark Winslow

Recreation Director Randy Adams was also present.

Recreation Committee member Mark Poljacik was not present.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

The minutes of May 17, 2014 were read and accepted. J. White made the motion to accept the minutes as read.

M. Winslow seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
RECREATION DIRECTOR’S REPORT
R. Adams presented his Recreation Director’s Report to the committee.
OLD BUSINESS

Basketball Court & Tennis Courts Work
Rehabilitation work was done in June 2014 to both the basketball and Tennis courts. They both look great. The new baskets for the basketball court are on order and are scheduled to be shipped the third week in August.

Pittsford Day Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Fire House, volunteers needed!!!
This year’s Pittsford Day event is modeled after last year’s 65th Anniversary party for the Fire Dept. with take place at the Fire House

Pittsford Tree Fund & Plantings at the Recreation Area along Sugar Hollow Brook
The Recreation Committee has an opportunity to look at the trees that were purchased with money from the Pittsford Tree Fund and planted along the Sugar Hollow Brook. They were planted on Friday, June 20, 2014, the day before the Open House at the Recreation Area.

Kendrick Dam Removal nearly complete
The Kendrick Dam Removal Project on Sugar Hollow is going well and is nearly complete. The Kendrick Dam site is located not to far upstream from the Recreation Area. Markowski Excavating has been a true professional to work with.

 

 

 

Fall Programs
Youth soccer pre-K – 6th grades, Hunter Safety, Senior Bus Trip to the Woodstock Meal site, and monthly Senior Luncheons @ the VT Police Academy. The Recreation Department is also sponsoring Kickboxing, a Teen Dance, and the Pittsford Pumpkin Party and a Disc Golf Tournament at the Recreation Area on Saturday, 10/25/14. And a bus trip to see The Radio City Christmas Spectacular on Saturday, 11/15/14.

Safe Routes to School (walkers & bikers)
On August 12, 2014 the Recreation Director attended his first Safe Routes to School meeting. He was brought up to speed on what the committee is about and how are ways the Recreation Department can assist. The Recreation Department will be coordinating bike safety programs for the spring of 2015. The next SRTS meeting is scheduled for September 30.

Weeds growing in the Recreation Area Swim Pond
Another reason why the August meeting was scheduled at the Recreation Area was so that the Recreation Director could show the Recreation Committee the weed growth that has taken place in the swim pond. The Recreation Members present agreed that the Recreation Department should take the necessary steps to remove these weeds.
All Other Business
With no further business to discuss, M. Winslow made the motion to adjourn the meeting.

K. Shortsleeves seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

The meeting adjourned at 7:45 pm.
