R. Adams presented his December Recreation Director’s Report to the committee. In November, the Recreation Department cosponsored with the Brandon Recreation Department a basketball program that allowed kids to get to know other kids from Neshobe and Lothrop Schools. This Otter Community Youth Basketball Clinic exceeded all our expectations.  We had 56 kids who registered in the 1st – 3rd grade clinic. In the older group we had 43 kids which totaled 99 KIDS for the entire program!  The next event OCY will sponsor is the Winter Basketball Clinic at OV on 12/28 & 12/29. The Pittsford & Brandon Recreation Departments cosponsored a trip to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular featuring the world famous Rockettes in New York City on Saturday, November 16, 2013 Thank you to Kathy Shortsleeves for all her work promoting this trip. From day one she was the driving force behind this successful trip. Many folks who attended have gone out of their way to inform me what a wonderful job Kathy did as the trip leader and liaison for the Recreation Department, including the Town Manager Mr. Haverstock who noted she was very knowledgeable and was able to answer questions as they came up. The Recreation Department also received a “Thank You” note in the mail from Marion Ferguson and her family for coordinating this trip. The next bus trip that the Recreation Department is cosponsoring is the Boston Celtics vs Atlanta Hawk trip scheduled for Tuesday, 12/31/13. There are seats still available. Contact the Recreation Director if you’re interested in attending

Welcome Sign @ the Recreation Area

The Recreation Department will be working towards installing a Welcome Sign on Recreation Road that clearly displays all the things the area has to offer. The Recreation Director will work on a list of these items and discuss with the Recreation Committee.

Basketball Shoot Out Event

The Recreation Department is sponsoring the “Shoot Out Competition” for the first time on Friday, December 27, 2013. So far the Recreation Department has collected $1300 in donations.

Winter Programs

The Recreation Department is sponsoring Women’s Open Gym at the VT Police Academy, youth basketball, Men’s Open Gym at the Lothrop Gym, aerobics/kickboxing, two teen dances at the VT Police Academy, three Family Fun Nights, and the monthly Senior Luncheons at VT Police Academy. The Pittsford and Brandon Recreation Departments will also be sponsoring our Learn to Ski/Snowboard program in March 2014 at the Middlebury Snow Bowl. The Recreation Department will be sponsoring a Winter Celebration at the Pittsford Recreation Area if weather and snow conditions allow. No date was selected, TBA.

Jay Peak Pump House Indoor Waterpark, Saturday, March 22, 2014

The Pittsford and Brandon Recreation Departments will be cosponsoring a day trip to Jay Peak Pump House Indoor Water Park. The Jay Peak Pump House indoor waterpark is a place for well-earned leisure. A place where you can surf, climb, float the Big River like a boss or sit out a rough day. A place where the movement of the water does more than keep you entertained. It actually moves you” according to their website. Transportation will be provided.

All Other Business

B. Crossmon mentioned that the Lothrop PTO will not be having their annual Movie Nights in the gym this winter. He suggested the Recreation Department think about sponsoring some. He felt it would be nice for Pittsford families if the Recreation Department did this.

With no further business to discuss, K. Shortsleeves made the motion to adjourn the meeting.

M. Poljacik seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

The meeting adjourned at 7:40 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,
