Meeting Minutes : Recreation Committee

PITTSFORD RECREATION DEPARTMENT

MINUTES OF January 8, 2013

PITTSFORD TOWN OFFICES

@ 6:30 pm

 

Meeting was called to order by Rob Ketcham at 6:35 pm. Members of the Recreation Committee who were present include Bill Crossmon, Jenny Parker, Mark Poljacik, Kathy Shortsleeves, and Mark Winslow.

 

Recreation Director Randy Adams was also present.

 

Recreation Committee member John White was not present.

 

 

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

 

The minutes of November 13, 2012 were read and accepted. B. Crossmon made the motion to accept the minutes as read.

 

M. Winslow seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

 

 

RECREATION DIRECTOR’S REPORT

R. Adams presented his January 2013 report to the committee. R. Adams reminded the Recreation Committee that the Recreation Area entrance gate is opened and closed each day now year round weather permitting. In the past the Recreation Area front gate would be left closed during the winter months. At this time the Pittsford Highway Department plows Recreation Road & the a large portion of the parking nearest the Bathhouse just like another road/street in town. Before residents who wanted to use the Recreation Area during the winter months had to park in front of the entrance and walk in from the Furnace Road

 

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

Winter Programs

The next Teen Dance is scheduled for Friday, February 8, 2013 at the VT Police Academy. The Recreation Department is sponsoring a School Break Fun Day, on Wednesday, 2/20/13. They’ll visit the Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center in Rutland in the morning and the VAC (Vermont Achievement Center) Pool in the afternoon. The Recreation Department is sponsoring the Learn to Ski/Snowboard Program at the Middlebury Snow Bowl on Sunday mornings March 3-24. The Recreation Department will be sponsoring a Winter Celebration sometime this winter at the Pittsford Recreation Area, time & date yet to be determined.

 

Bill Crossmon, Community Center Idea

B. Crossmon spoke with the Recreation Committee more about the idea of a Community Center being pursued in Pittsford. The Recreation Committee agrees that a Community Center would be a value asset to the town.

 

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

 

Other Business

Bob Harnish, Pittsford Trails Chairperson asked the Recreation Director to speak to the Recreation Committee about “finding new and younger” Trails Committee members, to help with maintaining the Pittsford Trail Network.

 

 

All Other Business

With no further business to discuss, M. Poljacik made the motion to adjourn the meeting.

 

B. Crossmon seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

 

The meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm.
