ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

The minutes of April 14, 2009 were read and accepted. K. Shortsleeves made the motion to accept the minutes as read.

RECREATION DIRECTOR’S REPORT

R. Adams verbally presented his May/June Recreation Director’s Report to the committee. He first happily mentioned that after nearly a 3-month search he had finally hired a Day Camp Director. Heather Durkel of Pittsford was selected out of a hand full of other applicants. Her experience running other day camps set her apart. Mr. Adams discussed how the youth baseball/softball teams had gotten off to successful starts. Mr. Adams noted that he has visited the minor softball teams first practices and talked with parents to help ensure things ran smoothly for the new coaches. The Recreation Director discussed the Spring Fling Teen Dance. On Friday, April 24, 2009, Pittsford Recreation Department sponsored our annual Spring Fling Teen Dance at the VT Police Academy. 154 teens in grades 7-10 participated in this event. This dance was the first time that the Recreation Department challenged students to bring a donation of food goods for the spring food drive. All items went to the Pittsford Food Shelf!

OLD BUSINESS

Summer Programs

The Recreation Department is gearing up for another great summer season. The Recreation Department will be offering three 2-week sessions of swim lessons, six weeks of Day Camp, plus for the first time in long time tennis camp.

Pittsford Day

R. Adams reported that the Pittsford Day Committee had chosen Saturday, July 18, 2009. With the fourth of July on a Saturday the Pittsford Day Committee wanted to stay away from having the Pittsford event on the same day as the Brandon Parade. Mr. Adams stressed that that they are always searching for new volunteers to be part of the Pittsford Day Committee. There are roughly only six people (Ron & Phaedra Washburn, Jenny Parker, Kathy Brown, Jill Blanchard from Omya and Randy Adams) who plan the entire Pittsford Day. Mr. Adams was happy to announce that Omya has agreed to be the corporate sponsor of the 2009 event. Since the reincarnation of Pittsford Day in 2005 they have always donated to Pittsford Day, but after participating in the 2008 event and finding out how well it is ran by its volunteers, and supported by the public, they wanted to take on a larger role.

NEW BUSINESS

Terry Poor/Tony Freson “Disc Golf Proposal”

Terry Poor gave a 20-minute presentation on why he thinks a “Disc Golf Course” would be beneficial to the residents of Pittsford and why one should be installed at the Recreation Area.

All Other Business

With no further business to discuss, K. Brown made the motion to adjourn the meeting.

J. Parker seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

The meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Randy Adams, Recording Secretary

Kathy Shortsleeves, Chairman
