RECREATION DIRECTOR’S REPORT

R. Adams verbal presented his April Recreation Director’s Report. Highlights were the youth baseball & softball. He noted the unusually large number of girls ages 9-11 who had registered for Minor Softball. Twenty-four (24) girls have signed up and for the first time since the Recreation Director was hired in May ’01 the Recreation Department will have two teams in a single season. The Recreation Director discussed the Spring Fling Teen Dance, Green Up Day, Pittsford Day, the Town of Pittsford Newsletter, the Pittsford Fishing Derby, and a new Recreation Department “Yoga for Kids” program. The Recreation Director informed the Recreation Committee that on Monday, April 13, 2009 the Recreation Area opened for the season. Joe Pomykala began working on Tuesday, April 14, 2009

OLD BUSINESS

Day Camp Director Search

After an unsuccessful search in March, the Recreation Director stated that he was in the mist of the second round of interviews looking for a Day Camp Director for 2009. In March, R. Adams only advertised the Brandon/Pittsford Reporter. For the second round in order to reach a larger population of prospective candidates, he took an ad out in a Sunday edition of the Rutland Herald. He noted that this help wanted ad has created some positive movement towards filling the position. He re-opened his search in March and applications are due by 6:00 pm Thursday, April 16, 2009.

Spring Programs

The Recreation Department is gearing up for the busy spring season ahead. Programs advertised in the Town of Pittsford Newsletter that will out to residents in mid-April include the Spring Fling Teen Night. For the first time the Pittsford Recreation Department is challenging students to bring a donation of food goods. The class (7-10) that collects the most food items during the dance will win a cool prize. All food collected will benefit the Pittsford Food Shelf.

Pittsford Day

R. Adams reported that the Pittsford Day Committee had chosen Saturday, July 18, 2009. With the fourth of July on a Saturday the Pittsford Day Committee wanted to stay away from having the Pittsford event on the same day as the Great Brandon Parade. Pittsford Day Committee’s next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22 at 6:30 pm at the Town Offices.

Committee Appointments (Chairman & Vice Chair) & 2009 Recreation Area Fees

The Recreation Director attended the Wednesday, April 1, 2009 Select Board meeting. At the meeting the Board unanimously approved the Recreation Committee’s appointments, R. Ketcham, Recreation Committee, Chairman, and K. Shortsleeves, Recreation Committee Vice-Chairperson. The Select Board also unanimously approved the Recreation Committee motion to keep the 2009 Recreation Area fees at same rate as 2008.

NEW BUSINESS

Youth Baseball/Softball Fields Protective Fencing

R. Adams stated that the Recreation Department would be installing protective fencing on field #2 at the Recreation Area on the Upper Field (Over bridge to the left) and on the softball field or field #3- Upper Field (Over bridge to the Right). Neither field has any fencing that protects the players while in they are in the bench areas. On each field 6’x25′ area of fencing is needed to safeguard players from foul balls and errant throws. S. Eugair, brought in a quote for material of $651.76 from Home Depot. R. Adams stated that a workday has been planned and a group of volunteers would install the fence on April 25.

All Other Business

With no further business to discuss, K. Brown made the motion to adjourn the meeting.

S. Eugair seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

The meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Randy Adams, Recording Secretary

Rob Ketcham, Chairman
