RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Members of the Recreation Committee read the Directors Report.
R. Adams pointed out to the Recreation Committee that the Recreation Department and Maclure Library are beginning to take more of an interest in serving the seniors in the community. He noted that the Recreation Department and the Maclure Library meant once in October to brainstorm different programming ideas. The first senior programs that we're going to offer are a couple of "FREE" computer classes at the Maclure Library at times when it's most convenient for seniors.
Park Benches for the Recreation Area
During a discussion at the October 2006 Recreation Committee meeting a committee member had asked the Recreation Director to present them some information at the November meeting on park benches. In November R. Adams brought a number of different magazines with the park bench information highlighted. After looking at the different supplier magazines the Recreation Committee decided that paying $500-$600 per bench would not be a wise financial decision. R. Adams stated that in early December he contacted the Rutland Recreation and Parks Department in reference to where they purchased their benches and what it cost them. He found out that, they purchase the concrete ends from locally from Griswold's Masonry Products in Rutland, and that each bench that was built in house cost substantially less then what could be found in any the literature.
R. Adams informed the Committee that the 2007 Recreation Report for the Town Report is due Friday, December 29, 2006. He asked the Recreation Committee members to let him know if there was anything specific that they'd like him to include in this years report. R. Adams also said that once he has the report written that he'd e-mail a draft copy to Recreation Committee for feedback.
Town Band Concept
R. Adams also reported that Pittsford resident Kelley Lyons had meant with him to discuss a few ideas she had in reference to starting some type of community music program. K. Lyons, a licensed music instructor, vision had three separate focal points. Her first point was to start a Youth Chorus or Town Chorus, her second point was that she'd like to begin a Town Band, and her third idea was a to start some type of music therapy program. R. Adams told her that the Recreation Department might be interested in pursuing some or all of her ideas, and that he'd be willing to host a meeting at the Town Offices to see if the idea could gain interest. R. Adams asked K. Lyons to write brief synopsis of her proposal that he could put into the next town newsletter.
2007 Winter Brochure
As part of their meeting packet the Recreation Committee members received a copy of the 2007 Winter Brochure that was scheduled to be distributed through Lothrop Elementary School the next day (Wednesday, December 13, 2006).
With no further business to discuss, K. Shortsleeves made the motion to adjourn the meeting.
M. Winslow seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm.
