RECREATION DIRECTOR’S REPORT

Ketcham mentioned that he thought the Pittsford Pumpkin Party was a success in that 110 people attended the event, but he suggested that next fall to have more children activities available, such as storytellers to keep kids engaged.

OLD BUSINESS

Senior Programs

R. Adams pointed out to the Recreation Committee that the Recreation Department and Maclure Library are beginning to take more of an interest in serving the seniors in the community. He noted that the Recreation Department and the Maclure Library meant once in October to brainstorm different programming ideas. The first senior programs that we’re going to offer are a couple of “FREE” computer classes at the Maclure Library at times when it’s most convenient for seniors. Also during that meeting we developed the Pittsford Senior Resident Program Questionnaire. The questionnaire is designed to be completed by seniors and asks specific questions such as what type of programs would they like to see offered in Pittsford? These questionnaires will be distributed to the seniors through the local churches, at the Maclure Library, and at the Town Offices. We hope that these surveys generate a lot of discussion and many wonderful programs can begin because of it.

FY 2008 Work Plan/Budget

R. Adams reminded the Recreation Committee that he had presented the “Draft” copy of FY 2008 Work Plan and Budget to the Selectboard at the November 1, 2006 meeting. As requested by the Selectboard the Recreation Department’s FY 2008 budget was level funded from the previous year. The Selectmen have heard from a many Pittsford taxpayers about their unhappiness with their property tax increases that came from the town wide reappraisal, so they directed the Town Manager to present a level funded budget for FY 2008. M. Cioffredi questioned the status of the “New Skating Rink”. R. Adams replied that he included $15,000-$20,000 for “Multi-Use Basketball Courts/Skating Rink” in the FY 2010 Capital Budget. R. Adams was asked why the project had been pushed so far out into the future. He noted that the Recreation Department had just spent $21,625 to purchase the Kubota tractor and he didn’t feel comfortable asking for that kind of funding in any shorter time frame. He went on to say that with the recent reappraisals already having the Pittsford tax payers concerned it would be harder to justify this type of expenditure to the residents. M. Cioffredi indicated that she’d like to see the time table of this project pushed up and asked R. Adams if he thought there was any way this project could be completed sooner and he said yes if we could get non-tax dollars to pay for it.

NEW BUSINESS

Benches for Recreation Area

During a discussion at the October 2006 Recreation Committee meeting a committee member had asked the Recreation Director to present them some information at the November meeting on park benches. R. Adams brought a number of different magazines with the park bench information highlighted. After looking at the different supplier magazines the Recreation Committee decided that paying $500-$600 per bench would not be a wise financial decision. The committee then began to brainstorm different ideas to obtain park benches for the Recreation Area. Recreation members decided they’d research different avenues and bring their ideas to the next Recreation Committee meeting in December.

With no further business to discuss, M. Cioffredi made the motion to adjourn the meeting.

K. Shortsleeves seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

The meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,
