Recreation Director’s Report

December 8, 2015

On Saturday, November 14, 2015 the Pittsford Recreation Department sponsored a trip to New York City, NY. Fifty six passengers loaded the Mountain Son Tour Bus, Inc. of Mendon, VT, on the frigid November morning. We had forty tickets to see Radio City Christmas Spectacular 2:00 pm show. Folks who attended the show we’re once again amazed with the choreographing and movement of the world famous “Rockettes” and said they had a “marvelous time”. The others who didn’t have Radio City tickets were on their own, free to do their own thing at their own pace. One group went to the 911 World Trade Center Memorial, another couple took in a Broadway Show and others just enjoyed the sights, sounds and most importantly the delicious food of the very busy city. The Recreation Department would like to recognize Kathy Shortsleeves for her hard work from start to finish with this program. For her the trip begins in June when that year’s show schedules are released. Kathy works with the Recreation Department scheduling this particular trip for us. She helps with ordering tickets in July when the Recreation Department’s new fiscal year begins, finding reliable transportation and attends the bus trip as a repressive of the Pittsford Recreation Department. During the summer she helps the Recreation Department publicize and advertise the trip. Kathy’s outings are very organized.

On Saturday, 11/21/15 the Recreation Department sponsored our annual Holiday Craft Sale. The Recreation Department would like recognize Kelly Connaughton the Craft Fair Coordinator and Laurie Hemple the Basket Raffle Coordinator. Thank you to both of you very much for all the hard work you both put into the Craft Fair and Basket Raffle this fall. You both volunteered your time out of your very busy schedules to help raise money for the under privileged kids in our community. The Town of Pittsford and Lothrop School are fortunate to have such qualified, organized and energetic people in charge of this important community tradition. These kids and their families will be much better off because of your dedication. Thank you Kelly and Laurie!

Teen Dances are scheduled for Fridays 12/18/15 and 3/18/16 at VT Police Academy in Pittsford 7:00 – 10:00 pm. We NEED HELP and are looking for volunteers to help us that night. I noticed that one of the PTO’s lip sync contests is scheduled for 3/18/16 the same night after speaking to Stacey Pearsons we felt the two be able to run as we’ll be hosting separate age groups.

Family Fun Nights are scheduled for January 8, 2016, February 5, 2016 and March 4, 2016 at the VT Police Academy. The Pittsford Recreation Department and the Maclure Library are teaming up again to offer three FAMILY FUN NIGHTS during the winter months. Each Fun Night is full of fun, which includes art and crafts, physical activities, and entertainment. Don’t miss out.

Typically during on the holiday break from the Otter Community Youth (Brandon Recreation Department, Pittsford Recreation Department and OV) annual Winter Basketball Clinic. This is a free clinic for all 1st-6th graders. Otter Valley varsity coaches and their players do the actual instruction of fundamental drills. Kids learn about respect, sportsmanship and the value of working hard. This year this program will happen in January or February to avoid the Christmas weekend

The Brandon and Pittsford Recreation Departments are cosponsoring a bus trip on Friday, December 11 to the Boston Celtics playing against the Undefeated Reining World Champions Golden State Warriors.
